Zelenskyy Thanks Honduran President for 'Geopolitical Shift'

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed his gratitude to Honduran President Nasry "Tito" Asfura for what he termed a "geopolitical change of course" in the Central American nation.

Speaking in Kyiv, Zelenskyy thanked Asfura and his administration for supporting Ukraine in significant geopolitical forums. Asfura's visit to the Ukrainian capital is historic, marking the first time a president of Honduras has ever set foot in Ukraine. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of this day in the history of both nations.

Zelenskyy highlighted Asfura's trip as a "political signal" to all of Latin America, demonstrating Ukraine's readiness to forge productive relationships with interested countries. He expressed optimism that this unprecedented visit, occurring over 35 years after Ukraine's independence, will invigorate bilateral economic and other relations.

This development is particularly significant given Russia's historically stronger influence in Latin America compared to Ukraine. Asfura assumed power in January, succeeding Xiomara Castro, who had previously congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin on his election victory in 2024. Zelenskyy's engagement with Asfura signals a potential realignment of Honduras's foreign policy.
