Zelenskyy warns Russian airspace is now ‘extremely dangerous’

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that Russian airspace is becoming extremely dangerous, saying it is effectively meant for drones rather than civilian flights while the war continues.

In a message posted on Telegram, the Ukrainian president said Kyiv had never designated civil aviation or commercial aircraft as targets. But he warned that the growing presence of Ukrainian drones and missiles in Russian airspace for defensive purposes posed an increasing risk to flight safety.

Zelenskyy said safety would return only when concrete steps toward peace began. “For now, the airspace across Russia is for drones, not civil aviation. Although the Russian authorities are not informing their people about this transparently, Russian airspace is practically going to be closed, covered by the war Russia itself started,” he said.

He also said Ukraine continued to support diplomatic efforts to end the war. According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine previously agreed to suspend drone attacks on Moscow and St. Petersburg on Aug. 25, 26 and 27 after a request from the United States. He said Ukraine complied while attacks on Ukraine continued.

Zelenskyy added that Ukraine would respect a request from a “global power” to suspend attacks toward Vladivostok for a certain period. A meeting in Moscow is being planned, he said, and Ukraine would take those developments into account. “We always support every step toward peace, every effort to prevent Russia from prolonging this war without end,” he said.
