Zenith Bank investigates data breach amid global cyberattack

Zenith Bank Plc has confirmed it is investigating an incident of unauthorized access to customer data. The bank assured customers that no financial information was compromised and its banking services and digital channels remain secure and fully operational.

In an email to customers, the bank explained that this breach is part of a wider global cyberattack targeting numerous international organizations across various sectors. Upon discovering the incident, Zenith Bank immediately activated its incident response protocols and intensified its cybersecurity and remediation efforts.

As a precautionary measure, Zenith Bank advised its customers to remain vigilant against potential phishing attempts and other social engineering tactics. Customers were urged to never disclose sensitive security credentials, such as passwords, PINs, or One-Time Passwords (OTPs), to anyone.

This incident marks the latest in a series of cybersecurity challenges faced by Nigerian financial institutions. In recent months, banks have suspended social media operations due to impersonation and fraudulent activities. The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) is also investigating alleged data breaches involving other financial entities.
