Zhongli candidate Huang Shih-chieh urges improvements to Xinming Market redevelopment

Democratic Party candidate Huang Shih-chieh visited the Xinming Market in Zhongli on August 19 to campaign and address concerns regarding the market's redevelopment. Huang emphasized that the current redevelopment plan requires substantial improvements to better serve the community.

The current plan has significant room for improvement. After redevelopment, integrating social housing above the market, the market must have its original scale and functions to maintain the surrounding quality of life.

During his visit, accompanied by local party officials and council members, Huang listened to residents' suggestions about the market's renovation. He highlighted that the Xinming Market needs to be rebuilt due to safety concerns. A key point of discussion was the relocation of vendors to temporary sites and their eventual return to the original location. Huang stressed the need for careful negotiation and thorough consideration of vendor opinions, noting that less than half of the vendors currently accept the existing plan.

Huang articulated his vision for the redeveloped market, which would integrate social housing above the market stalls. He insisted that the market must retain its original scale and functions to ensure residents' lives are not disrupted and convenience is maintained. "A good mayor should communicate and coordinate to find consensus, not just offer a choice between yes or no," Huang stated, criticizing the current approach to the redevelopment.

Furthermore, Huang addressed the issue of hospital construction in the area, specifically a proposed project by National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University near the A19 station of the Taoyuan Airport MRT. He expressed surprise at current Mayor Chang San-cheng's remarks suggesting the project's success depends on public support. Huang argued that the city government should actively coordinate and secure such projects. He contrasted this with his own experience as a legislator, where he worked with the former mayor to facilitate a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model for National Tsing Hua University's project. Huang pledged that if elected, he would lead the city government team to secure better medical resources for the district.

Regarding medical and hospital construction issues, Huang also said that recently Chang San-cheng mentioned in a public briefing that the plan for Yang Ming Chiao Tung University to build a hospital at Taoyuan Airport MRT A19 station requires public support, which surprised many. In fact, this should be actively coordinated and strived for by the city government.
