Zimbabwe President Hails Mutharika's 'Dedication' to Regional Peace As SADC Chairmanship Changes Hands

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has lauded Malawi's President Arthur Peter Mutharika, commending his steadfast commitment to fostering peace and security across the Southern African region during his leadership of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security. Mnangagwa's tribute came during a formal handover ceremony at the 46th Ordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government in Durban.

Mnangagwa specifically highlighted Mutharika's leadership in maintaining stability within the Southern African Development Community. This recognition marks a significant diplomatic moment for the Malawian leader, celebrated on one of Southern Africa's most prominent political platforms.

Malawi formally passed the SADC Organ chairmanship to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the summit. President Mutharika was not present to receive the praise in person; Malawi's Second Vice President, Enock Chihana, represented the nation at the high-level meeting.

The strong endorsement from a fellow regional leader is expected to provide a considerable diplomatic boost to Mutharika, whose efforts in promoting peace and security have now received public acknowledgment on a major regional stage.
