Zurich Diamond League sees two world records fall; Panama's Woodruff finishes fifth

The Zurich Diamond League meeting, a premier event in the athletics calendar, witnessed a spectacular display of talent as two world records were shattered on Thursday. The Letzigrund Stadium buzzed with excitement as athletes pushed the boundaries of human performance.

In the men's 400m hurdles, Brazil's Alison Dos Santos delivered a stunning performance, clocking in at 45.80 seconds. This remarkable time not only secured him victory but also erased the previous world record of 45.94 seconds, held by Norway's Karsten Warholm, who finished second in the race. Dos Santos's win marks a significant moment in his career, capping a season where he has consistently challenged and outperformed top rivals.

The women's 400m hurdles also saw a new record established, with American Anna Cockrell crossing the finish line in 52.13 seconds, setting a new Diamond League record. Her compatriot Dalilah Muhammad took second place with a season's best of 53.16 seconds, followed by Jamaica's Rushell Clayton in third with 53.17 seconds.

Panama's Gianna Woodruff competed in the women's 400m hurdles, finishing fifth with a time of 53.79 seconds. This performance follows her recent gold medal win at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo. Woodruff currently holds fourth place in the overall Diamond League standings with 27 points.

The meeting also featured the women's 100m hurdles, where American Masai Russell set a world record of 12.09 seconds. These record-breaking performances underscore the high level of competition in the Diamond League and highlight the exceptional form of the athletes involved.
