1,308 Hectares of Damaged Rice Fields Due to Floods, Aceh Barat Accelerates Recovery

In response to severe flooding that inundated 1,308 hectares of paddy fields on November 26, 2025, the Aceh Barat Regency in Indonesia is prioritizing rapid recovery. The local Agriculture, Food Crops, and Horticulture Office is actively disbursing self-managed funds to farmer groups to expedite the rehabilitation process.

The primary goal is to restore the damaged agricultural land to full productivity before the upcoming "rendeng" (main) planting season. Hendra Marsigi, Head of Infrastructure and Facilities at the office, stated that the fund disbursement is part of a broader initiative to optimize land affected by natural disasters.

Beyond the fields themselves, the floods significantly impacted crucial agricultural infrastructure, particularly irrigation and drainage networks. The recovery efforts will focus on repairing these essential systems to enable farmers to resume normal cultivation. The physical work will be carried out by the farmer groups themselves through a self-management mechanism, allowing for adjustments based on local conditions and needs.

This direct involvement of farmers is expected to accelerate the rehabilitation process, as they possess intimate knowledge of their land, identify specific points of damage in the irrigation channels, and understand the technical requirements for restoring functionality. The optimization program targets 96 farmer groups across eight sub-districts in Aceh Barat, including Kaway XVI, Pante Ceureumen, Arongan Lambalek, Bubon, Woyla, Woyla Barat, and Woyla Timur.
