10,673 Hectares of Rice Crops in Indramayu Threatened with Crop Failure Due to Drought

Indramayu Regency in West Java is facing a critical situation as a prolonged drought threatens to cause crop failure across 10,673 hectares of rice fields. This region, known as a national food granary, is experiencing severe dryness, leaving farmers deeply concerned about the potential loss of their harvest.

The lack of water supply is the primary concern. Farmers fear that if their fields are not irrigated soon, the threat of "puso" – crop failure – will become a reality, leading to a significant reduction in the area's overall rice production. The situation is particularly dire in the western part of Indramayu, spanning six districts: Sukra, Patrol, Anjatan, Bongas, Gabuswetan, and Kandanghaur.

According to Sutatang, Chairman of the Andalan Fishermen's Farmers Contact (KTNA) of Indramayu District, Sukra District is the most severely affected. Out of its total 3,445 hectares of paddy fields, approximately 2,500 hectares are suffering from drought. Patrol District faces a similar crisis, with 2,100 hectares out of 3,175 hectares affected. In Anjatan Subdistrict, 2,000 hectares of the total 6,150 hectares are also under threat from the drought.
