115 Households Compensated for Expressway Construction Damages in Vietnam

After a report by Thanh Niên newspaper highlighted their plight, 115 households in Bình Hiệp commune have finally received compensation for damages to their homes and auxiliary structures caused by the construction of the Hoài Nhơn - Quy Nhơn expressway.

The affected residents had been waiting for over a year to receive payments, despite the completion of damage assessments. The delay stemmed from a disagreement between the construction units and the insurance company regarding the payment schedule. While the construction contractors were ready to disburse their portion, the insurer had not yet announced a payment timeline.

After the inspection of the damage, the parties drew up minutes and agreed on a compensation amount of over 31 million dong. However, more than a year later, the family still had not received this amount.

Following Thanh Niên's intervention, the involved parties, including the construction firms, the insurer, and the local authorities, coordinated to complete the full disbursement of over 397 million Vietnamese dong. The project management board and the contractor covered approximately 210 million dong of the total damages, while the insurance company was responsible for the remaining nearly 187 million dong.

One affected resident, Bà Trương Thị Phúc, shared her experience. Her agricultural materials storage facility, built five years prior at a cost of nearly 500 million dong, suffered significant damage, including two walls collapsing during a typhoon in late 2025 due to cracks sustained during expressway construction. She was awarded over 31 million dong in compensation but had not received it for over a year until the recent disbursement.
