Soldier posthumously awarded for bravery after saving comrade from landslide

The Fatherland Defense Order, Third Class, and a certificate of merit from the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union were awarded posthumously to Senior Lieutenant Cao Tuan Anh. The ceremony took place on August 9 in Vĩnh Thịnh commune, Hải Phòng city, where Major General Nguyễn Nam Tiến, Head of Political Department of Military Region 3, presented the honors to Anh's family.

Senior Lieutenant Cao Tuan Anh, a soldier with the 17th Engineering Company, 2nd Platoon, under the Command of Military Forces of Hải Phòng City, tragically died on August 7. He was participating in a mission to construct a national defense project on Bạch Long Vĩ island when the incident occurred. During the mission, Anh noticed his comrade, Private Nguyễn Bình Nguyên, was in an area at high risk of landslides.

In a selfless act of bravery, Senior Lieutenant Anh immediately rushed to push Nguyên out of the danger zone. While he successfully saved his comrade, Anh sustained severe injuries. He succumbed to his injuries later that day at 10:55 AM. His sacrifice has been widely recognized, with multiple delegations from Military Region 3 visiting his family to offer condolences and pay tribute.

Born on October 21, 2006, in Hải Phòng, Cao Tuan Anh enlisted in the army in February 2025. He was admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam on May 19, 2026, during his service, a testament to his dedication and commitment. The posthumous awards honor his ultimate sacrifice and his contributions to national defense.
