15,803 identity document applications processed through MEKAR programs

The National Registration Department (JPN) processed 15,803 identity document applications through 2,044 "Program Menyemai Kasih Rakyat" (MEKAR) events nationwide during the first six months of this year. These outreach programs also delivered 18,196 advisory services, underscoring JPN's ongoing commitment to ensuring all citizens, particularly those in rural and remote areas, possess valid identity documents.

Datuk Badrul Hisham Alias, Director-General of the National Registration Department, stated that this achievement demonstrates the effectiveness of the department's proactive approach in bringing government services directly to the people, regardless of distance or travel difficulties. "Identity documents are not only proof of identity but also the basis for accessing various facilities and rights for Malaysian citizens," he said.

In Pahang, as of June 30, the state JPN conducted 115 MEKAR programs, including Community MEKAR, Ihsan MEKAR, and Jejak Identiti MEKAR. These events processed 420 identity document applications and provided 1,450 advisory services. Last year, JPN Pahang organized 216 MEKAR programs, processing 1,552 applications and delivering 7,039 advisory services.

The MEKAR Community program has seen significant growth, with 39 programs organized in 2024 compared to just nine in 2023 and eight in 2022. Nationally, JPN conducted 3,607 MEKAR programs last year, processing 47,371 applications and providing 47,055 advisory services. In 2024, 2,311 programs have been implemented so far, involving 54,009 applications and 37,537 advisory services.

Badrul Hisham attributed the success of the MEKAR program to close cooperation among various government agencies, penghulus (village chiefs), ketua kampung (village heads), non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and local communities. The use of the MEKAR Bus as a mobile office and four-wheel-drive vehicles further enables staff to reach interior areas. JPN will continue to expand the MEKAR program to ensure more inclusive, efficient, and comprehensive service delivery, reminding the public to safeguard their identity documents as they are fundamental to their rights as Malaysian citizens.
