18-year-old arrested after fatal shooting and police confrontation in Cali

A violent incident in Cali, Colombia, resulted in the death of a 33-year-old woman and the subsequent arrest of an 18-year-old suspect following a shootout with police. The events unfolded on the night of Friday, June 19, in the El Jardín neighborhood.

According to initial reports, the young man entered a home in search of a relative, who is believed to be the victim. A dispute ensued inside the residence, culminating in the suspect allegedly drawing a firearm and firing indiscriminately. One of the shots struck Ingrid Yulieth Cortés Isaza, who was critically wounded and later died at a local medical center despite efforts to save her.

Following the shooting, police were alerted and responded to the scene. Officers encountered the 18-year-old suspect attempting to flee. When confronted by law enforcement, the man reportedly fired at the police officers with the same weapon. An exchange of gunfire occurred, during which the suspect sustained an injury to his leg.

The suspect was apprehended at the scene and subsequently transported to a health center for treatment. Authorities reported that a modified traumatic pistol with altered cartridges and a 12-gauge shotgun were seized from the individual. His judicial process is being completed at the medical facility.
