20 Ethiopian youth footballers disappear during Swedish tournament

Twenty young footballers from Ethiopia have vanished during the Gothia Cup, an international youth tournament held in Gothenburg, Sweden. The entire team disappeared from their accommodation on the day of the tournament's final matches.

Organizers immediately alerted the police after discovering the group's absence. Ten days after the competition ended, the whereabouts of the 20 participants and their adult chaperones are still unknown. Swedish authorities are investigating the possibility that the group intentionally left their lodging to seek illegal residency in Sweden.

The Gothia Cup, one of the world's largest youth football tournaments, attracted teams from 77 countries this year, including four from Ethiopia. The incident raises concerns about the welfare of young athletes participating in international events and the potential for exploitation.
