2026 Teacher Placements Favor Counseling Roles; Ministry Allocates More Posts

Romania's 2026 teacher placement process has significantly favored candidates seeking positions as school counselors and support staff, addressing a long-standing need for these services in educational institutions. Graduates from fields such as psychology, pedagogy, special pedagogy, social pedagogy, sociology, and primary and preschool education found favorable conditions for securing stable, permanent teaching roles.

Over the past three years, approximately 3,000 teaching positions have been made available across the country, with a substantial number of these being permanent, full-time roles. This influx of vacancies, particularly in rural areas, highlights a critical need for school counselors and itinerant/support teachers. While the number of available positions varied by county, the overall trend indicates a robust offering for these specialized fields.

In contrast, traditional subjects like Romanian language, mathematics, history, and geography continue to face intense competition, with very few permanent positions available each year. Specialists in counseling and support roles, however, benefit not only from a generous number of available hours but also from the creation of complete teaching positions, offering a realistic path to lifelong employment within the education system.

An analysis of Olt county revealed 12 permanent school counselor positions and 17 itinerant/support teacher positions. For counselor roles, 12 out of 25 candidates achieved passing scores. The situation for support teacher positions, specifically in special pedagogy, saw 19 initial applicants, with five withdrawing. Of the remaining 14, five candidates secured scores of at least 7.00, qualifying them for permanent positions.
