2026 World Nomad Games: Kazakhstan takes first place in team standings

Kazakhstan took first place in the team standings at the VI World Nomad Games after organizers decided to count the medals of three Kazakh athletes separately, presidential press secretary Askat Alagozov said.

Alagozov described the Games as a high-level event that concluded as a major celebration of sport. He said Kyrgyz and Kazakh teams performed strongly in kok-boru and kokpar, while competition remained on the field and caused no problems among supporters.

"The only technical difference in the team standings arose in the medal count," Alagozov said. He added that the organizing committee had decided to count each medal won by the three Kazakh athletes separately, resulting in Kazakhstan's first-place finish.

The VI World Nomad Games took place in Kyrgyzstan from Aug. 31 to Sept. 6, 2026. The opening ceremony was held at Bishkek Arena, while the main sporting, cultural and academic events continued around Issyk-Kul. The kokpar and kok-boru finals took place in Cholpon-Ata on Sept. 6, followed by the closing ceremony that evening.
