2027: ADC will not trust INEC with its votes, says party official

Nigeria's African Democratic Congress (ADC) is preparing for the 2027 general elections with a firm stance on protecting its votes, signaling a lack of complete trust in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Bolaji Abdullahi, the party's National Publicity Secretary, declared that while some INEC officials are committed to credible elections, the ADC will not base its electoral strategy on trust alone.

With due respect, INEC still has people that are committed to doing the right thing, but we are not going to run our election based on trust.

Abdullahi expressed disappointment with the outcomes of previous elections where the party had placed its faith in the electoral process. "We trusted them in 2023 and we saw what happened. We are not going to trust them with our votes this time around," he stated, emphasizing the party's determination to defend its mandate in the upcoming polls. While he remained tight-lipped about the specific methods the party intends to employ, he assured that "that is what we are going to do if we must win this election."

The party recently held a "walk-to-rule" exercise in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, to sensitize residents about the ADC. Despite initial concerns about limited resources compared to other major political parties, the turnout exceeded expectations. Supporters walked approximately 13 kilometers, demonstrating what Abdullahi described as genuine support and highlighting the ADC's potential as an alternative political platform for the state's residents. The party urged support for its candidates, promising to focus on improving socio-economic conditions, particularly in rural areas.
