2027: APC says finalising nationwide campaign plan

Nigeria's ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is meticulously preparing its campaign strategy for the upcoming 2027 General Elections, aiming to launch a comprehensive nationwide program. The party assured its members that a detailed campaign plan will be unveiled soon, well ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) official August 19 kick-off for presidential and national assembly election campaigns.

Felix Morka, APC's publicity secretary, explained that the party is deliberately structuring its strategy after extensive consultations with critical stakeholders and affected candidates. This approach ensures a well-thought-out plan before the campaign officially begins. Morka clarified that while August 19 marks the legal commencement of the campaign window, parties are not mandated to start rallies immediately on that specific date, emphasizing that no party is permitted to begin campaigning before the designated start.

August 19 is the date fixed by INEC for all parties to start the presidential and National Assembly campaign. There is no law that we must start on that day. The only thing is, no political party is permitted to start ahead of the day.

The official campaign window is a significant milestone in INEC's revised timetable for the 2027 General Election. Following legislative updates under the Electoral Act framework, presidential and federal legislative campaigns are set to commence on August 19, 2026. Governorship and state houses of assembly campaigns will begin later, on September 9, 2026.

Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, with Governorship and State Houses of Assembly polls following on February 6, 2027. The APC's forthcoming release will detail its national rallies, regional flag-offs, and candidate tours across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, ensuring a broad and coordinated campaign effort.
