2027 elections: Governors banking on rigging will be disappointed, says Kwankwaso

Vice-Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, has issued a stark warning to Nigerian governors aiming for re-election in 2027, predicting disappointment for those who rely on manipulating election results. Kwankwaso asserted that such attempts at rigging will fail.

Speaking at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Personality Interview Series in Abuja, Kwankwaso based his forecast on the current political climate. He observed that many governors who have failed to address their constituents' needs are seeking refuge in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), mistakenly believing the party will ensure their victory. However, he stated that Nigerians are increasingly aware of their political choices and will not automatically support incumbents simply because they control state machinery.

Kwankwaso highlighted the pervasive dissatisfaction among citizens stemming from insecurity, poverty, unemployment, and the deterioration of public services. He argued that these issues provide genuine reasons for Nigerians to demand better governance. He recalled his own tenure as Kano State governor, where his administration prioritized education by ensuring access to primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, and also addressed the Almajiri challenge with dedicated infrastructure.

Criticizing the trend of politicians defecting to the APC for political gain, Kwankwaso expressed confidence that the Nigerian people will ultimately determine the outcome of the 2027 elections. He urged political leaders to heed the voices of citizens and acknowledge the necessity for change when governments fail to meet expectations.
