2027: NNPP to field candidates for 90% of elective positions

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) aims to contest in over 90% of all elective positions nationwide during the 2027 general elections, despite facing delays from ongoing litigation. The party's founder, Boniface Aniebonam, announced this plan in Lagos following an emergency National Working Committee meeting.

The NNPP, as you all know, has had so much delays. We are happy we have surmounted most of it. In the following weeks, Nigerians will begin to see and meet our candidates in their various states.

Aniebonam stated that the party has overcome most of its challenges and Nigerians will soon see their candidates across various states. He also indicated that the NNPP is open to forming strategic alliances with political parties that share similar interests and ideologies ahead of the 2027 polls. "We can work with parties, where we feel they have stronger hold and vice versa," he said.

Addressing the party's stance on zoning its presidential ticket, Aniebonam clarified that zoning is typically considered by parties that have already won the presidency. He asserted that the NNPP has never supported zoning, advocating instead for the selection of the most capable and integrity-filled individual to lead, even if they come from the same region as a previous president, provided they deliver good governance.

The NNPP plans to hold a non-elective convention before the end of August. This convention will allow members to discuss and make decisions on various party issues, ensuring inclusive decision-making beyond the National Working Committee. Aniebonam also urged former members who left during the party's internal leadership crisis to return promptly, as the party prepares to replace placeholder candidates.

If we will ever consider zoning, it is to be when we would have won a presidential election. However, the NNPP has never supported the idea of zoning. We believe that the best person with integrity who can deliver should be allowed.
