2027: Obi’ll win North despite criticism — Obidients, NDC

Supporters of Nigerian presidential candidate Peter Obi are projecting strong electoral gains in northern Nigeria for the 2027 elections, despite criticism from some political figures. Leaders of the Obidient Movement and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) dismissed claims that an Obi-Kwankwaso ticket would not be viable in the region.

Everybody is a witness to what is happening in the country today, the level of insecurity, especially in the North. If Peter Obi has the magic wand to turn things around, then it is not for them to define his fate.

Abdulmumin Abdulsalam, Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, described Obi's critics as politically irrelevant. He asserted that northern voters would base their decisions on the current economic and security situation, rather than ethnic or religious sentiments. Abdulsalam stated that the era of discrediting candidates based on religion or ethnicity is over, emphasizing that the masses will vote for their choice.

He added that the mistake of the 2023 election would not be repeated and that criticism of the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket was a waste of time.

It is the masses who will come out en masse to vote for their choice. And I can tell you that the mistake of 2023 cannot be repeated. So, by merely coming out to discredit the personality of Peter Obi, saying the O-K (Obi-Kwankwaso) ticket is not sellable is a waste of time.

The NDC plans to unveil its northern mobilization strategy and intensify engagements with labor groups, civil society organizations, and the electorate. National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, acknowledged that the movement identified shortcomings from the 2023 election and is expanding its reach across the North through grassroots mobilization.
