Tinubu highlights reforms in education, infrastructure, security

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration's dedication to advancing Nigeria through significant reforms in key sectors, including security, education, infrastructure, and economic development. Speaking at the third General Hassan Usman Katsina Memorial Conference in Kaduna, Tinubu emphasized that these ongoing reforms are foundational for a more prosperous Nigeria. He expressed confidence that security challenges, particularly in Northern Nigeria, will soon be overcome. "While we continue to work day and night to secure our nation, by the grace of Allah, the challenges of insecurity confronting us, particularly in Northern Nigeria, will soon be behind us," he stated. In education, the President highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which has already benefited over one million students, expanding access to higher education. His administration has also stabilized tertiary institutions by removing them from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) and reversing deductions from their internally generated revenues. Furthermore, investments have been made in classrooms, research centers, and science complexes through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), alongside the approval of a new national curriculum and expansion of technical and vocational education. New federal universities and polytechnics have been established to enhance educational access. On infrastructure, Tinubu reported progress on the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Expressway and the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, as well as the Sokoto-Zamfara-Kaduna Road and the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe Road, aimed at improving connectivity and stimulating economic growth. The administration is also implementing projects to strengthen electricity supply in Northern Nigeria, including the Kaduna Power Station and the revitalisation of the Kaduna Power Plant. The College of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Kaduna has been upgraded to a university named after the late Gen. Hassan Usman Katsina. Construction is also advancing on the Gwagwalada Independent Power Plant and various renewable energy projects. In transportation, the Kaduna-Kano Rail Line and Kano-Maradi Rail Project are under construction.
