23 outdoor fires active in Serbia, all available capacities engaged

Serbia is facing a significant challenge with 23 active outdoor fires burning across the nation. All available human and technical resources have been mobilized to combat the blazes, according to a report submitted to the Republican Staff for Emergency Situations Operational Team.

The fires are spread across various regions, with active incidents reported in Sremska Mitrovica, Kraljevo, Leskovac, Prijepolje, Belgrade, Šabac, Prokuplje, Bor, Pančevo, and Zaječar. The scale of the problem is particularly evident in Šumarak, within the Deliblatska Peščara, where a fire has consumed over 2,000 hectares of land.

Fighting the extensive fire in Šumarak involves a coordinated effort from the Sector for Emergency Situations, the Serbian Army, and employees from "Srbijavode" and "Vojvodinašume." Two helicopters from the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs are also assisting in the operation. Authorities are closely monitoring the water supply and electricity situation in the affected area, prepared to respond if necessary.

Similar intensive efforts are underway to extinguish fires on Stolovi mountain, which has affected approximately 200 hectares, and in Maglič, where about 170 hectares are burning. Another fire in Polumir, characterized by extremely inaccessible and rocky terrain, has impacted about one hectare of low vegetation. A fire in Gabrovnica, near Zaječar, was successfully extinguished on Monday afternoon. In response to the ongoing situation and weather forecasts, relevant institutions are undertaking measures to prevent further negative consequences, monitoring water supply, air quality, river levels, and electricity provision.
