27 churchgoers killed in Zimbabwe bus-truck collision

A horrific road crash in central Zimbabwe claimed the lives of at least 27 churchgoers on Friday evening. The collision occurred near Chivhu, approximately 140 kilometers south of the capital, Harare, when a foreign-registered haulage truck, attempting to overtake another vehicle, slammed into a minibus.

The minibus was reportedly carrying worshippers to a conference. Police confirmed that seven people were injured in the crash. Social media footage depicted the minibus completely charred and mangled, with the truck resting on the opposite side of the road, illustrating the severity of the impact.

This incident marks the latest in a series of deadly road accidents to plague Zimbabwe. The country's roads are often in poor condition, riddled with potholes due to years of underfunding and neglect, contributing to frequent accidents. Driving standards are also a concern.

In April, a similar tragedy occurred when at least 18 people died in a minibus fire on a southern highway.
