3 children go swimming in river, 1 goes missing after drowning

A search is underway for a missing 15-year-old boy after he disappeared while swimming in a river in Thanh Đức commune, Vĩnh Long province. The incident occurred on the afternoon of May 28 when three teenagers, identified as Đ.G.B and V.K.T, both 15 years old, and T.C.T, 14 years old, went to swim at the foot of Bạch Đằng bridge.

About 30 minutes into their swim, Lê Nguyễn Minh Quân, a 20-year-old local resident fishing nearby, heard cries for help. Quân immediately jumped into the river to rescue the boys. He managed to pull T.C.T to shore and was carrying V.K.B on his back. However, as Quân neared the bank, V.K.B struggled, slipped off his back, and submerged in the water.

Quân attempted to dive and find the boy but was unsuccessful. He quickly surfaced, called for assistance, and alerted local authorities. The Thanh Đức commune police responded promptly, arriving at the scene and coordinating with the Vĩnh Long provincial Firefighting and Rescue Police to conduct a search operation.

As of 7:30 PM on May 28, the rescue team had not located the missing boy. The search was temporarily halted due to the onset of darkness, ongoing rain, high tides, and strong currents at the confluence of the Long Hồ and Cổ Chiên rivers. Rescue operations are expected to resume when conditions permit.
