3 impoverished families receive earthquake-resistant homes in Khotang

In Halesi Tuwachung Municipality, Khotang, three families previously living without adequate shelter have received new, earthquake-resistant homes. The municipality funded the construction of these two-room, single-storey houses, allocating Rs 500,000 for each dwelling. This initiative directly addresses the plight of impoverished residents who were unable to build homes due to financial hardship.

The beneficiaries include Deshbir Rai, who lived in a dilapidated hut with his elderly wife; Bhaya Damai and her brother Chame, who faced difficult living conditions due to disabilities; and Tek Bahadur Sarki's family, who had been living in others' homes after returning to the village. The construction falls under the municipality's Safe Citizen Housing Programme.

Mayor Bimala Rai stated the municipality's commitment to providing safe housing for all residents. The municipality has also planned to build homes for displaced individuals who wish to return and settle permanently, provided they own land. The decision to construct these three homes was made during the municipality's 136th executive meeting, marking a significant step in ensuring the safety and dignity of its most vulnerable citizens.
