30-Year-Old Sentenced to Suspended Prison Term for Crashing into Highway Toll Booth While Drunk

A man in his thirties has been handed a suspended prison sentence for driving under the influence and crashing into a highway toll booth. The court issued a sentence of two years and six months imprisonment, suspended for four years, for the offense.

The incident occurred on January 3rd around 00:30 AM. The accused, identified as Mr. A, was driving a vehicle on the Guri-Namyangju section of the 수도권 제1순환고속도로 (Metropolitan Area First Ring Expressway) near the Guri Namyangju toll gate. At the time of the accident, his blood alcohol content was measured at 0.283%, a level significantly above the legal limit for driving and sufficient for license revocation.

In addition to the suspended sentence, Mr. A was ordered to complete 160 hours of community service and attend 40 hours of traffic safety education. This sentencing comes despite the man having prior convictions for drunk driving and refusing breathalyzer tests on two separate occasions.

The court cited the extremely high blood alcohol concentration and the resulting traffic accident as key factors in its decision. The judges also considered his past offenses related to drunk driving when determining the final sentence. The incident highlights the severe consequences of driving while intoxicated.
