34 rescued from Chimalhuacán rehabilitation center amid abuse allegations

State of Mexico prosecutors, with support from the National Guard and municipal police, have rescued 34 people from a facility operating as a rehabilitation center for addiction in Chimalhuacán. The individuals, comprising 30 men and 4 women, have been reunited with their families.

The operation was prompted by an investigation into allegations of illegal detention. After obtaining a judicial order, law enforcement officers entered the property, known as "La Tribu de Judá." Inside, they found the residents suffering from various injuries and, in some cases, skin infections. Evidence suggests that the center subjected its residents to physical abuse, including prolonged standing and the consumption of spoiled food.

Reports indicate that families were required to pay 15,000 pesos for residents to leave the center. Ángel Ricardo “N” and Luis Alberto “N,” identified as the individuals in charge during the raid, have been handed over to the relevant authorities. The property has been secured as part of the ongoing investigation.

This action is part of a broader effort by authorities. Between March 13 and March 20, 2026, prosecutors, along with federal, state, and municipal agencies, seized 53 similar facilities suspected of involvement in various crimes.
