35th Nahdlatul Ulama Congress Set for August 1-5, 2026

The 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress is set to take place from August 1 to 5, 2026, following the conclusion of the National Conference of Ulama and Grand Conference (Munas-Konbes) NU 2026. This decision was reached during the Munas-Konbes NU 2026 held at the Al-Falah Ploso Islamic Boarding School in Kediri on Monday, June 22.

Munas and Konbes are part of the series of preparations for the Muktamar, which God willing will be held from August 1 to 5, 2026.

Mohammad Nuh, Secretary of the Steering Committee for Munas-Konbes NU 2026, announced that several regions have officially submitted bids to host the upcoming congress. These include West Nusa Tenggara, East Java, West Java, DKI Jakarta, and West Sumatra. The selection process for the host location will involve a thorough review by a special team formed by the Nahdlatul Ulama Central Board.

Nuh outlined four primary criteria for evaluating potential host sites. Firstly, the suitability of the necessary infrastructure to support the congress. Secondly, security arrangements are paramount, ensuring the safety of participants and the orderly conduct of proceedings. "Because this concerns the congress, security must be ensured. We must prevent individuals without authority or eligibility from entering the room," Nuh stated.

Thirdly, the financial preparedness of the host region will be assessed. Lastly, the spiritual aspect, which has traditionally played a significant role in NU's decision-making, will also be considered. The theme for the 35th NU Congress will align with the Munas-Konbes 2026 theme: "Maintaining Dignity, Enriching Service for the Benefit of the Nation."
