4,264 delegates to decide DAP's fate in Malaysia's unity government

The future of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) within Malaysia's unity government hinges on a crucial decision to be made by 4,264 party delegates. A secret ballot at the DAP National Congress this Sunday will determine whether the party remains in the federal government until the end of its term.

Secretary-General Anthony Loke Siew Fook will present the motion regarding the party's position. Khoo Poay Tiong, the National Organization Secretary, confirmed that delegates from 1,704 branches, selected based on the 2025 eligibility list, will have the opportunity to cast their votes. This decision comes ahead of the 16th General Election (PRU16) and coincides with the DAP's 60th-anniversary celebrations.

Khoo emphasized that the vote will be conducted through secret ballot papers, ensuring that each delegate's choice is private. "We want to ensure all members' voices from every corner and state are heard before a decision is made," he stated during a press conference at DAP Malaysia headquarters.

The process is expected to take approximately two hours after the debate session. The party leadership has pledged to accept the outcome determined by the delegates, ensuring that all attendees receive a ballot paper and the chance to vote. The congress will also address federal-level issues, further highlighting the significance of this gathering for the party's direction.
