59-year-old man charged after fire in Bramming

Police in South and Southern Jutland arrested a 59-year-old man on Saturday after a fire broke out in an apartment building in Bramming. The man, who comes from Haderslev Municipality, faces a charge of intentional arson.

Police received the report at 3:50 p.m. The fire started in one apartment, and heavy smoke prevented other residents from leaving the building. Sydvest Fire and Rescue attended both to put out the fire and to evacuate residents from the other apartments using smoke divers.

No one was injured. Police later found indications that the fire had been deliberately started and arrested the man in connection with the case.

Investigators were expected to remain at the scene for several more hours. Police had not yet decided whether to bring the suspect before a constitutional hearing on Sunday. All residents except the person living in the apartment where the fire began may return once police finish their work.
