7 Dead, 9 Injured in Dubai Road Collision; Police Issue Safety Warning

Dubai Police have issued a stern warning about the severe risks associated with stopping vehicles in the middle of the road, following a devastating collision on Emirates Road that claimed seven lives and left nine others injured. The incident underscores the critical importance of vehicle roadworthiness and safe driving practices.

Brigadier Juma Salem Bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, highlighted that stopping on a highway is one of the most dangerous violations, frequently resulting in severe accidents, fatalities, and serious injuries. He urged motorists to contact the police immediately if their vehicle breaks down and cannot be moved, ensuring that necessary safety measures, such as patrols and securing the stranded vehicle, are implemented to protect all road users.

Stopping in the middle of the road is one of the most dangerous violations, often leading to severe accidents, fatalities, and serious injuries.

The fatal crash occurred when a minibus collided with a truck that had stopped unexpectedly in the middle of Emirates Road due to a technical malfunction. Preliminary investigations suggest the bus driver may not have been paying adequate attention or maintaining a safe distance. The impact resulted in seven fatalities and nine injuries, with five victims sustaining serious harm and four moderate injuries. All injured parties were promptly transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the truck had stopped suddenly in the middle of the road due to a technical malfunction. The bus driver, reportedly failing to pay attention and maintain a safe distance, collided with the truck from behind.

Brigadier Bin Suwaidan detailed the protocol for drivers facing vehicle issues on the road: activate hazard lights, ensure personal safety and that of any passengers by moving to a safe location away from the road, place a warning triangle at a sufficient distance behind the vehicle if possible, and contact the police. He stressed that stopping in the middle of the road is a serious offense, carrying a Dhs1,000 fine and six traffic points, along with an additional Dhs500 fine for obstructing traffic.

Traffic accident investigators were dispatched to the scene to gather evidence and determine the precise causes of the crash. Traffic patrols managed the flow of vehicles, secured the area, and facilitated the work of rescue teams. The damaged vehicles were subsequently removed to restore normal traffic conditions.

These measures include activating hazard warning lights, ensuring the safety of the driver and any passengers first, then placing a warning triangle behind the vehicle at a safe distance where possible to alert approaching drivers, leaving the vehicle entirely and moving to a safe location away from the road, and finally contacting the police.
