7-year-old foils scam attempt, sending con artists fleeing

A clever 7-year-old child thwarted a scam attempt in Eskişehir, Turkey, preventing fraudsters from stealing gold from an 81-year-old man. The elderly victim, identified as H.İ., was contacted by individuals falsely claiming to be police officers and prosecutors.

The con artists spun a tale about H.İ. being implicated in a theft investigation. They instructed him to hand over his gold for examination, a common tactic used by such criminals. The scammers then sent a woman, posing as a police officer, to the man's residence. H.İ., seemingly convinced by their ruse, even escorted the suspicious woman to his home.

The suspicious woman asked for the gold, claiming it would be compared to see if it was stolen property. Under the pretext of a prosecutor's and police order, she tried to take a large amount of gold from the house. The wife of the homeowner told her 7-year-old grandson to inform his father, who was about 150 meters away in block C-2. Upon the child being directed to his father, the panicked suspect woman quickly left the apartment.

However, the situation took an unexpected turn when the young grandson inside the house expressed a desire to see his father. The presence of the child and the imminent arrival of his father caused the scammer to panic. Realizing their scheme was about to be exposed, the woman fled the house hastily, abandoning her attempt to steal the gold.

Security cameras captured the woman's arrival and her quick departure. The family has since reported the incident to the police. Site management confirmed that no financial loss occurred, highlighting the child's quick thinking as the key factor in foiling the crime.
