8,182 SPPGs Suspended Since MBG Program Began; 2,213 Yet to Reactivate

Indonesia's National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has suspended over 8,000 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) across the country due to various issues, including prominent incidents and non-compliance with standards. Since the MBG program's inception on January 6, 2025, until May 29, 2026, a total of 8,182 SPPGs out of 27,208 operational units have faced temporary suspension.

Nanik S. Deyang, Deputy Head of BGN for Public Communication and Investigation, stated that the suspensions were prompted by public feedback, regional official input, surprise inspections, and monitoring of notable events experienced by beneficiaries. These incidents often involve digestive problems such as diarrhea or vomiting.

The suspensions are categorized by region. In Region I (Sumatra), 758 SPPGs have been suspended, with 148 currently inactive. Region II (Java) has seen the highest number of suspensions, totaling 3,466, with 1,666 still suspended. Region III (Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, and Papua) has had 3,959 suspensions, with 399 currently inactive.

Beyond prominent incidents, other reasons for suspension include issues with infrastructure, organizational management, and nutritional quality. SPPGs also face sanctions if their menus do not adhere to the set raw material budget of Rp 8,000 or Rp 10,000 per portion, or if there are instances of price markups. While 5,659 suspended units have resumed operations after meeting the stipulated conditions, 2,213 SPPGs are still undergoing their suspension period.
