8-year-old boy dies from electrocution while retrieving kite from rooftop

A tragic accident has claimed the life of an 8-year-old boy in Phu Rieng commune, Dong Nai province, Vietnam, after he was electrocuted while attempting to retrieve a kite. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers children face during summer holidays, particularly when playing near electrical hazards.

The boy, identified as Đ.H.V., was playing with his kite on the afternoon of July 12 when it fell and became lodged on a neighbor's tin roof. In an effort to retrieve his toy, the child climbed onto the roof, tragically coming into contact with an electrical source and suffering a fatal shock.

Local authorities from the Phu Rieng commune Party Committee and People's Committee visited the victim's family on July 14 to express their condolences and offer support. They provided assistance to help the family cope with the sudden loss of their child.

Officials from Phu Rieng commune have issued a warning to parents about the risks associated with children playing in areas near power lines or other potential hazards. They urged parents to increase supervision of their children during the summer break and to repeatedly remind them not to fly kites near power lines or substations, nor to climb utility poles or attempt to retrieve objects caught in the electrical grid.
