$821 million allocated for infrastructure push

Fiji is set to significantly boost its infrastructure development with an allocation of $821 million for the upcoming fiscal year 2026-2027. The Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport received this substantial funding in the new National Budget, marking an increase of $21 million from the previous year's $800 million budget.

the funding will support critical infrastructure upgrades, including the replacement of four major bridges at Lami, Medraukutu, Sabeto and Viseisei, with $41.5 million allocated for the projects.

Finance Minister Esrom Immanuel highlighted that this funding will target critical infrastructure upgrades. A notable portion, $41.5 million, is earmarked for replacing four major bridges located at Lami, Medraukutu, Sabeto, and Viseisei. Additionally, $3.2 million has been allocated for the maintenance of jetties and preparatory work for the Vunikura Jetty.

The investment extends to improving rural and maritime communities, with $17 million designated for rural roads, water supply, and electricity services. The initiative also emphasizes climate-resilient infrastructure, incorporating rural road and water projects supported through development partnerships, underscoring Fiji's commitment to adapting to environmental challenges.

The Government has also allocated $3.2 million for jetty maintenance and preparatory work for the Vunikura Jetty.

This financial commitment signals a strong focus on enhancing the nation's infrastructure, aiming to improve connectivity, service delivery, and resilience across Fiji's diverse landscape.
