95 Percent School Attendance in Taveuni Following Bus Service Resumption

School attendance on Taveuni has surged to 95 percent, marking a significant recovery after a two-day disruption in bus services. The resumption of operations by Taveuni Buses Pte Limited has been a considerable relief for students, parents, and educational institutions across the island. The temporary halt in transport had previously hindered students' ability to commute to and from school, prompting the Ministry of Education to implement contingency measures and arrange for temporary transport providers to ensure educational continuity.

Navin Raj, Permanent Secretary for Education, highlighted the Ministry's successful efforts in minimizing the impact of the disruption. He noted that the return of bus services contributed to the strong student turnout. Furthermore, the Literacy and Numeracy Assessment for Year 5 and Year 7 students proceeded smoothly on the same day, achieving an impressive 98 percent attendance rate.

Raj assured that students who missed the assessment due to the transport issues would be given an opportunity to take the examination on a scheduled catch-up day. He encouraged all students to maintain regular school attendance. The Ministry continues to collaborate closely with transport providers and relevant authorities to guarantee uninterrupted access to education. The Permanent Secretary also expressed gratitude for the support and cooperation from stakeholders, parents, and the wider community, acknowledging their role in mitigating disruptions and ensuring students remained engaged with their education.
