A coordination group will be formed for the Vansu Bridge repair

Riga's City Development Committee is set to consider the formation of a coordination group to manage the consequences of the upcoming Vansu Bridge repairs. The committee's agenda for Monday, August 17, includes a decision on establishing this group, proposed by committee chairman Edgars Bergholcs.

Bergholcs emphasized the necessity of proactive preparation, stating, "The repair of the Vansu Bridge cannot be left to chance, and we must start seriously preparing for the situation now, because it is clear that when the country's main bridge repair begins, a crisis will begin in the city."

The proposed coordination commission will operate for as long as deemed necessary by the committee, involving Riga City Council deputies from each faction. Its mandate includes identifying issues related to infrastructure, public spaces, traffic organization, education, culture, social services, and environmental safety. The commission will focus on finding swift and effective solutions, proposing changes to traffic flow, and developing mobile infrastructure strategies.

Crucially, the commission will analyze scenarios involving the complete or partial closure of vehicular traffic on the Vansu Bridge. However, it will not address the technical aspects or execution of the bridge construction itself. The consortium "Vanšu tilts," comprising "Hanza Construction Group," "Tilts," and "Vektors T," won the repair contract for 69.8 million euros, excluding VAT, after a second bidder's appeal was deemed unfounded by the Procurement Monitoring Bureau.
