A3 motorway section in western Romania reaches 71% completion, CNIR says

Work on the Chiribiș-Biharia section of Romania’s A3 motorway has reached 71% completion, after advancing by six percentage points in August.

The National Road Investment Company said more than 550 people and 404 machines and pieces of equipment are active on the 28.5-kilometre route in Bihor County. Crews have completed 18 kilometres of stabilized aggregate and laid the first and second asphalt layers across 13.5 kilometres. Barriers now cover 14 kilometres, while the relocation of national road DN 19E has been completed and the route has partly reopened to traffic.

The work is being carried out by the association of Precon Transilvania, the lead contractor, and Citadina 98. The design and construction contract is worth 785 million lei and receives European Union funding through the Transport Programme 2021-2027. The contractual completion date is May 20, 2027.

The section forms part of the Suplacu de Barcău-Borș segment, within the Gilău-Borș route of the Transylvania Motorway. The neighboring 3C1 section, between Suplacu de Barcău and Chiribiș, has a planned opening in 2026, while the 5.35-kilometre Biharia-Borș section opened in September 2020.
