Abia 2027: Group warns APC against sanctioning Kalu

A socio-political group in Abia has pushed back against the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), condemning its threat to sanction Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. The Reality Organisation described the allegations of anti-party activities as politically motivated and warned that disciplining the former governor could fracture the party before the 2027 elections.

The group's representative, Dimgba Okereke, stated that Kalu did not endorse Governor Alex Otti or the Labour Party in a recent television interview, contrary to claims by the Abia APC leadership. The APC had issued a communiqué demanding apologies from Kalu and Hon. Chris Nkwota for alleged anti-party conduct.

Reality Organisation clarified that when asked about President Bola Tinubu's chances in 2027, Kalu responded affirmatively. Similarly, he predicted Governor Otti's victory in the Abia governorship election. However, when questioned about an APC alliance with Otti, Kalu unequivocally stated no. The group questioned whether a prediction now constitutes an endorsement or anti-party activity.

"A prediction is an assessment of what one believes may happen; an endorsement is an expression of support for a candidate or cause. Conflating the two is either intellectual laziness or a deliberate attempt to mislead members of the party and the public," the organization stated. They urged the Abia APC leadership to reflect on Kalu's assessment, suggesting it highlights internal shortcomings rather than warranting disciplinary action.

The group also accused the state APC leadership of inconsistent standards, noting that past predictions concerning Kalu did not draw similar condemnation. They suggested that instead of threats, the party should analyze what led to Kalu's prediction and strategize to alter the political landscape before 2027.
