Abia Govt Pledges Lasting Solution to Owerri-Nta Road Flooding

Abia State Governor Otti's administration has pledged to permanently resolve flooding issues along the Owerri-Nta road, a key artery currently undergoing reconstruction. The commitment comes after a video circulated on social media showing severe flooding in a residential compound adjacent to the road.

Information Commissioner Prince Okey Kanu explained that the affected area suffers from a "long-standing topographical challenge" due to its naturally sloping terrain. The compound, situated downhill from the main road, has historically been prone to water accumulation during heavy rains. While the ongoing reconstruction work has temporarily worsened the situation, Kanu assured that the government is actively addressing the issue.

The Ministry of Works and the project contractor will use the current construction phase to further assess drainage patterns and implement necessary engineering adjustments. The dualization project aims to improve residents' quality of life, enhance road safety, and boost economic activities, not create hardship. Similar engineering concerns on the Onuimo-Umuahia Road corridor were successfully managed, demonstrating the administration's commitment to delivering infrastructure without causing avoidable environmental or residential challenges.
