Abiodun vows crackdown on kidnappers after Ogun students’ rescue

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has declared a firm stance against criminal elements, vowing that kidnappers will face severe consequences following the successful rescue of seven students from Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade. The students were abducted earlier this week but were safely recovered in a coordinated operation.

Addressing journalists alongside security chiefs and some of the rescued students, Governor Abiodun highlighted the operation as a testament to his administration's dedication to protecting lives and property. The rescue involved a collaborative effort by the Nigeria Police Force, Armed Forces, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Ogun State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), local vigilantes, and hunters.

He noted that one student sustained a gunshot injury during the incident and received immediate medical attention, and has since been stabilized.

Governor Abiodun assured the public that security agencies are actively pursuing the remaining individuals connected to the criminal enterprise. He credited the deployment of a police helicopter for aerial surveillance, approved by the Inspector-General of Police, as a crucial factor in the rescue's success. "Ogun State will remain hostile to criminality and safe for every law-abiding citizen, resident and investor," Abiodun affirmed, emphasizing the intensified efforts to apprehend those still at large. He also commended President Bola Tinubu for prioritizing national security and investing in the capacity of security agencies.
