Bauchi Police recover N2.26m stolen roofing materials, arrest suspect

Bauchi State Police have arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with the theft of roofing materials worth N2.26 million. The arrest occurred in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area, following a complaint filed by a shop owner.

The victim reported that unknown individuals broke into his shop on Kano Road, using a master key, and stole 460 meters of stonecut roofing sheets. Detectives from the Azare Divisional Police Headquarters responded swiftly to the complaint.

The command received a report on 5th August, 2026 at about 0800hrs from a 35-years-old male victim, resident of Gandunwambai, Azare, that on the same date at about 0700hrs, he discovered that unknown persons had gained entry into his shop located along Kano Road, Azare, using a master key and carted away 460 metres of stonecut roofing sheets.

Acting on credible intelligence, police intercepted the stolen materials along the Azare–Jama’are Road. During the operation, they arrested one suspect, Muktari Rufa’i, who confessed to the crime. Rufa’i also implicated an accomplice, Evra Pizo, who is now on the run. Police are actively working to apprehend the second suspect. The arrested individual is in custody, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.

Upon receipt of the report, a team of detectives from Azare Division was immediately mobilised to the scene. Acting on credible intelligence, the team intercepted the stolen roofing materials along Azare–Jama’are Road and arrested one of the suspects, Muktari Rufa’i, male, 35-years-old.
