Accord Party demands EFCC chair’s resignation over Osun account freeze

The Accord Party has commended President Bola Tinubu for directing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to unfreeze the Osun State Government's bank accounts. However, the party simultaneously demanded the immediate resignation of EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, stating that his removal is crucial to restoring the anti-graft agency's integrity.

Accord welcomes President Tinubu’s timely intervention in this critical national issue and urges security agencies, anti-graft commissions, the electoral umpire and relevant democratic institutions to strictly abide by their rules of engagement, statutory duties and democratic ethics.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Accord Party National Chairman Chief Maxwell Mgbudem described President Tinubu's intervention as "timely." He urged all security agencies, anti-graft commissions, and electoral bodies to adhere strictly to their statutory duties and ethical standards. Mgbudem asserted that the Accord Party has lost confidence in the EFCC's current leadership, citing alleged partisanship in Osun State politics ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Accordingly, Accord demands the immediate resignation of the EFCC chairman. For embarrassing the President, the party, the government and people of Osun State, and fellow citizens, the EFCC chairman should toe the path of honour and tender his resignation.

The party also called for impartiality from security agencies and other institutions involved in the Osun election, warning against the "militarization" of electoral contests to suppress political opponents. Mgbudem urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a free, fair, and credible election, emphasizing the need for adequate testing of electoral materials.
