Uzodimma to Davido: I’m not an Osun voter

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has clarified that he is not a registered voter in Osun State, thus having no direct influence on the outcome of the state's governorship election. This statement comes as a response to comments made by Ambrose Nwogwugwu, who had described an appeal for peace during the election by music star Davido as "emotional blackmail."

Uzodimma, who also chairs the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Osun State Governorship Campaign Council, stated that he neither authorized Nwogwugwu nor anyone else to respond to Davido's appeal. He referred to Davido as "his son" and explained that the musician's presence in Osun during the election period is due to his commitment to the APC, not because he is an eligible voter in the state.

"Davido remains my son. His coming to Osun for the exercise is solely because he is a committed member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and not one of the voters in the state’s governorship election on Saturday next week or at any other time," Uzodimma said. He reiterated that the APC consistently supports peaceful, credible, free, and fair elections and is seeking support from Osun voters for its candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.

The governor emphasized that supporting a political candidate is a normal democratic practice, not an indication that party leaders or campaign officials are voters in the areas where elections are held. He assured Davido and the people of Osun State of his continued respect, stressing that his role in the election is to support the APC candidate and promote a peaceful electoral process. Uzodimma urged the public to disregard Nwogwugwu's remarks, labeling them as personal opinions not representative of his views or the APC campaign council's stance.
