Acodeco removes over 44,000 expired products in seven months of 2026

Panama's consumer protection agency, Acodeco, has removed more than 44,000 expired products from circulation during the first seven months of 2026. National inspections revealed that expired items are the primary issue consumers face, accounting for nearly 85% of the over 52,000 anomalies detected across more than two thousand establishments nationwide.

Beyond expired goods, inspectors also identified a range of other irregularities. These include products lacking visible prices, deteriorated merchandise, instances of double charging for items, and packaging without clear expiration dates. Additionally, 49 cases involved the improper use of gas cylinders. The provinces of Veraguas, Los Santos, and Bocas del Toro reported the highest quantities of expired products removed from local markets.

Acodeco is urging merchants to adhere to commercialization norms and is encouraging citizens to meticulously check the physical condition and labels of products before making purchases. Consumers who encounter items in poor condition are advised to file a complaint with Acodeco.
