Action Alliance asks INEC to review 2027 candidates’ list

Nigeria's Action Alliance (AA) party is demanding that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) review the published list of candidates for the 2027 general elections. The party asserts that its nominated candidates have been excluded, despite court rulings that reportedly affirmed the leadership of its National Chairman, Chief Barrister Kenneth Udeze. In a statement issued Sunday, Udeze urged the electoral commission to publish an updated list that includes candidates nominated by his executive committee. The AA contends that the omission of its candidates is inconsistent with the Electoral Act 2022, which governs the nomination and publication of candidates by political parties. The party maintains that its candidates emerged from primaries conducted in accordance with legal timelines. Action Alliance has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to INEC to address their concerns, warning that they will pursue legal options if the issue remains unresolved. The party also called on stakeholders, including civil society organizations and the media, to monitor the situation.
