Actor Vincent Pastore, 'The Sopranos' Big Pussy, Dies at 80

Vincent Pastore, the actor beloved for his portrayal of Salvatore 'Big Pussy' Bonpensiero in the acclaimed series 'The Sopranos,' passed away on Saturday in New York. He was 80 years old.

Pastore was found lifeless in his Bronx home by a neighbor who had not heard from him in several days. The police have confirmed his death and are investigating the circumstances surrounding it. His representative, Bob McGowan, confirmed the news.

Before achieving fame, Pastore served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Upon returning, he pursued acting and landed his first film role in 'Black Roses' after turning 40. His early career often featured roles in police and organized crime films, including appearances in 'Goodfellas' and 'Carlito's Way.'

The role of Salvatore 'Big Pussy' Bonpensiero in 'The Sopranos,' which began in 1999, became his most recognized. He played a complex character, a close associate of protagonist Tony Soprano, who ultimately became an FBI informant. Pastore's personal life included a controversial incident in 2005 where he pleaded guilty to assaulting a former girlfriend, resulting in community service and a rehabilitation course.
