Actress Hwang Jung-eum resumes social media after embezzlement conviction

Actress Hwang Jung-eum has returned to social media after a period of absence following an embezzlement case. She posted a message on her social media account on June 30, stating, "Hello. It's Jung-eum. It's been a really long time since I've said hello."

Hwang Jung-eum expressed her gratitude for the time spent and her preparation for new endeavors. "I have been spending each day with gratitude and steadily preparing for new aspects of myself," she wrote. "I would be very grateful if you watch me closely and send warm support. I am always thankful."

In 2022, she was indicted for embezzling approximately 4.34 billion won from Hunminjeongeum Entertainment, an agency where she held a 100% stake. She admitted to investing about 4.2 billion won of the agency's funds into virtual assets.

Last September, a court sentenced Hwang Jung-eum to two years in prison, suspended for four years. The verdict became final as neither Hwang Jung-eum nor the prosecution appealed. She had admitted to all charges during the trial and fully repaid the embezzled amount between May and June of the previous year. After refraining from activities for about a year, she resumed her career by opening a personal YouTube channel in May.
