Hollywood is mourning the loss of Kaylee Hottle, a promising young actress who gained international recognition for her role as Jia in the "Godzilla vs. Kong" film series. Hottle passed away at the age of 18 following a tragic car accident in Frederick, Maryland.

Authorities reported that Hottle was a passenger in a 1995 Honda Accord that veered off a Maryland road and collided with a ditch early Tuesday morning. Her father, Joshua Hottle, confirmed her death in an emotional live social media broadcast using American Sign Language (ASL). He traveled from Texas to Maryland to handle his daughter's remains. Reports indicate Hottle's heart stopped while en route to the hospital after the accident.

Hottle, who was deaf, became a symbol of inclusivity in the film industry. Her father's side of the family has a history of hearing impairment. Her acting career began at age nine in a public service announcement for the video messaging app Glide, popular within the deaf and hard-of-hearing communities. Her breakthrough role came in 2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong," where she portrayed an orphaned deaf girl with a unique bond with Kong, communicating through sign language.

Her presence on set fostered a unique environment, with co-stars Rebecca Hall and Alexander Skarsgård learning ASL to communicate directly with her.
