Ade Kunang Sentenced to 7 Years in Prison, Father to 4 Years and Rp 11 Billion Restitution

Prosecutors have demanded a seven-year prison sentence for non-active Bekasi Regent Ade Kunang Kuswara and a four-year sentence for his father, HM Kunang, in a bribery case involving project procurement in the Bekasi regional government. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutor also seeks restitution payments of Rp 11.4 billion from Ade Kunang and Rp 1 billion from his father. If the restitution is not paid, both face an additional three years of imprisonment. Ade Kunang is also facing a five-year political rights suspension. The prosecution presented evidence including transaction records, testimonies, and communication logs with various department heads. However, Ade Kunang has refuted the charges, calling the indictment a fabrication and stating that the projects were tendered by the acting regent during that period, not under his authority. He also denied instructing subordinates to favor specific companies in tenders and requested clarification on the pre-DIPA budget tendering process. He further clarified that an Rp 8.5 billion sum was a personal loan, not related to the alleged bribery.

In my opinion, this indictment is a fabrication. This Rp 11.4 billion, I challenge the Prosecutor to prove who tendered it at that time, and it was never validly proven during this trial, and it was not during my tenure.
